Renaissance Bicycles -- Vintage and Modern Lugged Steel Bicycles

The Octopus Bike

We are always looking to do something a little different … and this is definitely different.

The Octopus Bike

Originally a 1978 Raleigh Record Ace, we have now updated it with an over-the-top paint scheme and all new components. While it is intended to be more functional artwork than a daily rider, this bike has the track goodies to get your around in style.

The unique paint was conceived, designed, and hand-painted by graphic illustrator James Flames. His aggressive style and liberal application of color really elevated the aesthetics of the classic lugged steel frame. The attention to detail and completeness of the design really must be seen to be fully appreciated.

With such a vibrant paint scheme, a classic track bike was really the only way to build this bike. It has all the right components … Surly track hubs, Velocity Deep V rims, and MKS pedals. The drivetrain, stem, and handlebars are all from the fixie specialists at IRO.

Keeping with the Raleigh heritage, we felt that a polished brass Raleigh headbadge, a Brooks B17 saddle, and Cinelli cork tape helped to preserve the essence of the original bike. Likewise, the original cable guides are still in place, so this bike can become a multi-speed road bike if needed.
