Rivendell Bicycle Works
Yes, Renaissance Bicycles and Rivendell Bicycle Works are teamed-up to bring high quality “country” bikes custom built to your specifications.
We currently offer two “stock” Rivendell frames:
- Sam Hillborne — This is the bike for EveryMan. It is made for commuting, touring, and even fire road exploration. It is comfortable and classic … just like you would expect from Rivendell.
- Betty Foy — This is the bike for EveryWoman. Comfortable, nimble, and ready to take you anywhere. This is serious transportation at a reasonable price.
As usual, Rivendell continues to swim upstream. Rather than embrace the current race oriented “compact” geometry, they have created these bikes with the opposite “expanded” geometry. Here it is in their own words:
“A compact frame doesn’t give you higher bars, just less frame and more seat post. The frame size is measured up past the end of the seat tube to a point on the seat post that’s level with the top of the head tube, just like it is on a traditional level-top tube bike. That’s a typical compact bike, anyway.
An expanded frame gives you much higher bars, easily, because the frame size is the seat tube length (as it is on a normal bike), and then the top tube slopes up 6 degrees, resulting in a higher head tube at the other end. The tall head tube means a higher starting perch for any stem, so it’s easy to get high bars.”

Each frameset sells for $1000. And although it sounds too much like a sales-pitch, this is a bargain considering the quality, craftsmanship, and longevity of these bikes.
