Rivendell Bicycle Works – Sam Hillborne

The Sam Hillborne is the latest creation in a long line of legendary frames from Rivendell Bicycle Works.

Rivendell Sam Hillborne

The good folks at Rivendell have put their collective wisdom together to make the premier “country bike” on the market.

From the Rivendell website:
It is a wonderfully versatile bike — more suitable for loaded touring than is the Hilsen, but not quite as heavy-duty-touring as the Atlantis. Absolutely you can ride it self-contained across the country, but it’s also super on roads, for commuting, and fire trails.”

Keep in mind that the Sam Hillborne has an expanded geometry design. As you might guess, this is the opposite of compact geometry … the toptube slopes upward to meet the headtube, and more importantly, the larger the frame size, the more the frame geometry “expands”.  In other words, pay attention to the sizing recommendations available via Renaissance Bicycles and Rivendell.  Just because you right a 56cm bike, doesn’t mean you should buy the 56cm Sam Hillborne.

And of course, you should also review Rivendell’s sizing guide for the Hillborne →

The Sam Hillborne is also unique in that the frame sizing dictates two different wheel diameters. The 48cm and 52cm frame use a 650b wheelset, and the larger 56cm and 60cm frames use 700c wheels.

And Rivendell hasn’t skimped on the extras either. All of these first production frames include a quality headset, bottom bracket, and seatpost.
