This lugged steel bike is a great example of the vintage craftsmanship from Fuji in the mid 1980′s.  Using a proprietary quad-butted VALite tubing, Fuji produced this popular lightweight bike at an affordable price.  A quick search of the Internet shows quite a few good examples of this bike still exist.  Heck, you might even contact Cycles de Oro where it was originally purchased.

This frameset is in overall good condition.  It has the expected small scratches around the chainstays, front dropouts, and headtube.  Fortunately, the frame is dent and rust free.  And though the decals are not perfect, this frame is a very good starting point for either a restoration or your own renaissance bicycle.  We would love to see it built with all new chrome Nitto and Shimano Ultegra … but that’s just us.  When you buy it, you could even (gasp!) make it into a fixie.

It does have one important (yet not really evident) flaw:

The seatstays have a very slight bend. The widest part of the bend is at the brake bridge, and there is a more pronounced bend (about 4mm) on the left seatstay than (about 2mm) on the right seatstay.  The cause of this slight bend is not known, but we feel that it is not significant enough to warrant a safety concern.  Fix it or don’t … that is up to you.

The Stats:

  • Seatube: 53cm (CTC)
  • Toptube: 54.5cm (CTC)
